OPPOSE
AB 1078 seeks to sideline local school boards’ power to make decisions about the curriculum taught in their school district, and instead, follow the guidance of Sacramento bureaucrats. While the bill has been amended and no longer requires school boards to receive approval from the state board of education before removing any materials from classrooms and school libraries or ceasing to teach any curriculum, it’s the proverbial camel’s nose in the tent of local education decision-making. This bill is aimed at silencing parents and school board members opposed to politicized curricula in schools, such as divisive critical race theory and inappropriate sexualized content.
