Summary

OPPOSE

Allows for schools to ask permission to snoop on children’s smartphones. If school faculty or administrators find compromising information they may withhold that information from the parent’s knowledge.

“After removing horrifying provisions that would have allowed for state sanctioned snooping on children’s cellphones from the August 5th version of the bill, SB 1283 curiously lacks any substantive policy direction to school boards. Current law already allows school districts to limit or prohibit the use of cellphones on campus making it unclear why the legislature needs to explicitly extend that same authority over social media.”
