CPC releases coalition letter exposing AB 84’s fiscal impact

SACRAMENTO — On Friday, August 8th, California Policy Center submitted its second Coalition Letter in opposition to Assembly Bill 84. Following last month’s letter to the Senate Education Committee, the August 8th letter addressed to the Senate Appropriations Committee highlights fiscal concerns about the bill.

The Senate Appropriations Committee will have a hearing on August 18th at 10:00am, where they will consider the fiscal impacts that hundreds of bills, including AB 84, would have on California’s state budget. The letter says, “the bill in its current form imposes expansive new mandates, duplicative auditing requirements, unfunded responsibilities, and bureaucratic hurdles without a fiscal plan to support its implementation.” It continues, “The bottom line is AB 84 threatens to dismantle California’s charter school system, which has served families well since its inception in 1992.”
