With limited exception, AB 2766 requires more disclosure on the reasons and credits acquired by inmates released early from the custody of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) under the California Public Records Act. As stated by the California District Attorneys Association, “The public should have a better idea of how the laws they have enacted are working when it comes to the release of offenders so they can decide whether to challenge, support, or seek modification in the laws.” This means that the Governor can no longer allow for the secret release of dangerous felons without reason.
