The CPC Parent Union is a project of the California Policy Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supported by generosity of thousands of individual donors and charitable foundations. This project provides resources to parents and education reform activists without charging any fees or membership dues.
Our goal: to introduce parental choice in a system that fails to educate California’s children. The Parent Union serves as a hub to parent groups statewide, representing tens of thousands of parents and community activists fighting for school choice and education reform across our state. In some places, our Parent Union members are moving from understanding the problem of unions in public education to running for local office.
The Parent Union is constantly playing behind the scenes to support local parent group leaders, many of whom are frustrated parents with little to no political experience. Parent Union helps parent group leaders:
- understand how school boards, local governments and the state legislature work;
- navigate legislative tracking, grassroots advocacy and media relations;
- stand up to the state’s powerful teachers unions that control Sacramento and local school districts and school boards; and
- get the information they need from their local school districts on everything from budgets to school curriculum by training parents on how to file Public Records Act requests.
