Assemblyman Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) introduced Assembly Constitutional Amendment 9 to eliminate the Office of State Superintendent of Public Instruction as an independent, nonpartisan elected constitutional officer and instead shift the power from voters to the  governor to appoint that position.

The appointment of the Superintendent by a partisan governor to oversee a bloated and disconnected California Department of Education bureaucracy will  politicize the position andremoveaccountability to California voters.

CPC opposes this bill without amendments giving voters a more direct choice in the education of their children.
