STOP THE UNION POWER GRAB!

Senate Constitutional Amendment 7 (SCA 7), introduced by Senator Tom Umberg (D-Santa Ana), would amend the California constitution to create a new constitutional right to “economic well-being” for government workers, and prohibit California state and local officials from taking any action “that interferes with, negates, or diminishes the right of employees to organize and bargain collectively.”

Though called “The Right to Organize and Negotiate Act,” SCA 7 has nothing to do with organizing or negotiating. Instead, this union-backed bill would give public-sector unions unprecedented power over state and local government decisions and California businesses. It would allow unions to veto the decisions of elected officials and upend our system of local representation.

SCA 7 would tie the hands of every elected official, endlessly delay local government projects, and make reform impossible. And, it will incentivize trial attorneys to bring countless frivolous lawsuits against cities, counties and school boards who don’t bow to union demands.

Protect the independence of local governments and the voters they represent.
